for the elderly who only know how to use their physical voicemail machine?

You have to make sure that your physical answering machine picks up before the Ooma system voicemail.

Depending on how many rings you have the machine set to, you'll have to make sure the pickup seconds of the Ooma vm is set higher.

To do that, log on my.ooma.com
Go to Preferences / Voicemail
Change 'Pickup timeout' to about 38 seconds. (Again, this number depends on the # of rings you have the answering machine set to)
Click the Save button.

Test it out by calling your Ooma number.

does that mean for auto blocked calls that wil still end up in the online voicemail

That is correct. They will go to the Ooma vm system.

You can get to the Ooma vm by using the Telo box itself, my.Ooma.com or the Ooma smartphone app.

yeah that doesn't work when it goes in a home router closet. at least without running ethernet to the other end of the house. that might not be half bad idea
