Brand new Telo and HD3 unusable?

Post by South79 » Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:50 pm

I've been at this for going on three hours and am livid. I've tried customer service to no avail. I'm ready to return everything and demand my account be canceled without ever placing a call!
Setup of the Telo base unit took longer than I expected, but after about 30 minutes of it updating it finally seemed to be working. I even pushed the 'play' button on the unit and listed to a welcome voice message. Setting up the HD3 headset though has proven impossible!
It didn't seem to want to turn on, followed all instructions and randomly after about ten minutes of fiddling it flashed on and then followed the setup instructions to pair it with the base unit. Well that put the HD3 into a cycle of erasing, upgrading and then erasing again after it failed to pair with the base unit. I have tried 3 times through this erase/upgrade cycle and finally after I search the forums I thought, well I'll try power cycling the base unit and the HD3. I did so and I pulled the batteries from the base unit since it was stuck in that erase/upgrade cycle. Now the HD3 unit is again a blank dark brick of nothingness. It doesn't flash, no power seems to be to the headset. I've tried pushing all number of buttons and even power cycled the base unit AGAIN. I tried switching the DC power unit plugs to a different wall outlet, Nothing works.
I can't get the headset to turn on at all and now I've wasted 3 hours of my life on this crap. Am I out of luck and out the $$? do I need to get another phone to plug into the base unit directly? or plug the base into my laptop somehow? like what do I do to get this hunk of junk to work!?

The Telo documentation states that the initial firmware update can take "a few minutes", but it can take longer. It also warns against interrupting the update while in progress; that could corrupt its firmware, making the Telo unbootable. A solid blue logo shows that it booted successfully, and connected to Ooma.

The HD3 handset also needs an initial firmware update; make sure to charge the batteries in the handset for at least 30 minutes (or maybe longer), before attempting to pair it with the Telo. Otherwise, if the handset dies while the update is in progress, then that could corrupt its firmware, making it unusable.

Please explain more clearly what "erase/upgrade cycle" means. If the handset still won't pair with the Telo after charging the batteries, then it may be necessary to exchange or replace it. In the meantime, try testing the Telo with a different phone if possible, to make sure that it works.
