How Long For CallerID to Display Correct Name

Post by MikeekiM » Fri Aug 28, 2009 8:25 pm

LOL... My friends aren't answering their phones when I call because they tell me that someone named "Omar" is calling (I am assuming that they mean Ooma...but they always tell me it's "Omar")....

How long till my name replaces Omar? :D

It could take a few weeks.
The caller ID info must propagate around the country to all the databases used by the different phone companies.
If it doesn't, you should call ooma customer service and they will work on it for you
see this topic ....

I have 2 Ooma accounts. With each account, I waited for a few weeks for the caller id to change. When it didn't change, I contacted customer service. In both cases, the problem was resolved within 2 days.

I think there might be a confussion, my name never shows and I have control of my number showing, as for propagating around the US, no it still does not work. If your friends have speeddial on their phone they can enter your name and number so when you call their phone will read your number and then you name will show. Also OOma does NOT publish the telephone numbers they issue, they are not listed under directory assistance or published in any telephone book. If this is something you want, you will need to contact the company that produces your local telephone book and you will have to add it on like to places like whitepages.com or verizon or whatever. This I like cause I have an unlisted telephone number I don't have to pay for kewl.

My response remains the same as I gave in the thread that niknak referenced:

Let's see - February till September... I guess even with fuzzy math that's quite a while.

MikeekiM, just tell your friends that you've gone undercover on an international assignment and Omar is your code name. When they ask for details just tell them it's classified.

I'm having dinner with them this weekend... I'll let them know in person about my role as a secret operative... :)
