Ooma Hub No Longer Allows Playback of Voicemail

Post by Goodcooker » Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:42 pm

On my Ooma Hub, the play button flashes, as usual, when there is a message. But, when I press the 'play' button on the Hub, nothing plays, and the button continues to flash. When I check online in the Lounge, there is, in fact, a message. The Play button stops flashing after I've listened to the msg online, so the Hub still works in that regard.

I've checked the volume on the unit, but to no avail. I attempted to power off/on the unit. Is there something else I can try to reset the Hub, or do I have a unit that needs repair?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, it sounds like a speaker/volume problem. Do you have monitoring on? If so, do you hear the voicemail kicking in and the caller leaving message? Does anything happen when you lower or increase the volume?

It's confusing but there are two little wheels on the hub. The one on the left is for volume and the one on the right is brightness. You might have bumped the one on the left and turned the volume down.

My thanks for your thoughts. Screening is turned on and the volume controls have been tested already. I suspect the unit is faulty, or there might be something I could do at this end to reset the unit. Not sure.

Reset ooma to default:
Unplug the power cable from the hub.
Hold down the blue/red ooma tab (it is a switch) while plugging the power back in.
Continue holding the tab down for 30 seconds while ooma displays a light show.
After 30 seconds release the tab. You ooma should be reset to default.

Wayne - Thanks for the reset procedure. Lights are working correctly, it appears, when a new message arrives, but pressing the play button, again, yields no sound. I can hear the message played over the phone itself if I pick up the phone, but nothing plays through the Hub itself. Volume knob has been adjusted as much as possible.

Appears the speaker has just decided to stop working. We can live with this for now, I suspect - I'll just have to tell the family that they need to pick up the phone and listen when they press the play button.

Unless there are any other ideas out there on this particular issue...

May seem silly but just get a short phone cord and plug the scouts wall port into the hubs wall port and use it to play back your messages (that is unless you're already using the scout somewhere else?).
Go AVS!

Same problem. The speaker or output amplifier has died. Is it possible to get a schematic to troubleshoot it?
The Telo is a $200 replacement. Wanna bet?

Same problem on Telo. And about 2 weeks after the warranty expires. Now they're gonna want my $ for another year of Premier service on a unit that won't play back messages? :o

This is not going well... :|
