Having some line noise issues ...
and they're driving my gf to stop using our ooma phones in favor of her cell. this can not stand!
what it is is a constant fuzziness on the line, sometimes more annoying than others. also, sometimes the voice on the other end sounds overamplified and screetchy, like it's all treble and no bass. finally, there's a major time lapse between dialing the call and the call starting to ring -- like 15 or 20 seconds -- much too long!
anyway, the cable modem is plugged into the ooma which is plugged into a linksys router. looks like a pretty plain vanilla set up. the phone is 5.6 mhz, i think. i am using the scout. below are my voip test statistics. can anyone offer me some trouble shooting ideas? thanks a whole bunch!

As a first step in identifying the source of the problem, try a corded phone (if you have one) plugged directly into the Hub's phone port (no scout). Is there any improvement?

just kidding. i know what a corded phone is. only, i don't have one, don't know where even to get one. guess i could hit staples, b uy it and return in. maybe ought to pick up one of those new-band cordless guys while i'm there.
what do you think? or is there anohter first step i could try?

Is your cordless phone connected through a Scout? If so, try connecting the base for that phone directly to the Hub's phone port and see if that makes a difference.linter wrote:corded phone? what the heck is that?

Also, how is the computer you ran the test from connected to your router? If wireless, connect if with an Ethernet cable and try again with no call in progress and no other Internet traffic. The results of your first test were not very good but you need to determine if the cause of that is with your ISP or your network.

okay, here's my latest test score, with my laptop connected directly to the cable modem. not very good scores!
also: i will try conntecting the base directly to the hud, see if that makes a diff.

What brand and model is your cable modem?

nope. the modem is a motorola sb5100. (and, fwiw, the router is a linksys wrt150n.)

You have ISP issues. Your download speed is lower than your upload speed. How many splits are there between the incoming cable and the cable modem? Are the splitters bidirectional?
Connect to http://192.168.100.1
and see what your incoming signal strength and outgoing power level are.

i'll check on the splitting issue. meanwhile:
my downstream signal to noise ratio is 39db and the power level is 1dBmV
my upstream power level is 45 dBmV.
What does this suggest to you?
