Phone with voicemail indicator

I have purchased a new AT&T cordless phone system (not yet installed) that has several handsets. This phone does not have an answering machine (not that we need it with Ooma). However it does have a voicemail indicator on it and I was wondering if when there are messages in my inbox, will the voicemail indicator work?
