Successful Alternative Install Solution

I would like to share this with you. Why? Karma is good. :)

The standard installation of ooma between a router and modem didn't work for me. This alternative approach did. See images below of before and after. Good luck.

I'm glad your installation is working and want to be among the first to welcome you to ooma and to the forums.

I am curious how your modified A setup is different from ooma's B setup (ooma Telo connected behind your modem/router)?

Also I agree about karma. My Honda Civic Hybrid insisted on having his own ooma with International calling so he could call his Ma every week. :P

@southsound :D I guess for holidays' sake, for good karMA, I'll call my MA with my new ooMA.

Option B is for integrated router/modem. Since I have a separate router, Option A setup didn't work for me. Even tech support wasn't able to figure it out. I guess combining the two did the trick.

For those of you having issues, try to login to you router and check to see whether or not the router recognizes your ooma device before pulling your hair. :P You probably have to check under "Attached Devices" or something similar. If the ooma unit is not there after few minutes, most likely your setting is off.

@Date Caller I.D. works fine for both incoming and outgoing calls.

HOW DO YOU CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS TO RECOGNIZE OOMA?

@phk All router software are different. If you're following my setup above, the router should recognize it automatically, unless both units have same MAC address. That would be rare. For first time installers, remember, even if the router recognizes ooma, you still have to give the unit up to 1 hour to update its software.

If your question pertains about accessing the router, type the router's IP address in your browser. it's typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 To find out your IP address, you have to go to your network setting and check the number assigned.
