Unregistering returned handset (not in my possession)

Post by wtnixon » Mon Jan 04, 2010 5:21 pm

Ok, so I originally bought one handset and returned it. Then I bought four more. The thing is three of the phones registered as handsets 2, 3, and 4. However, the fourth handset will not register now. I'm guessing the Telo thinks there's already four handsets, but I don't have the original handset to unregister. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

You'll need to do a factory reset of the Telo which can get tricky, because it's difficult to press the buttons at the right time. You may need to try a few times to get it done.

Power down the Telo.
Power up the Telo.
1 and 2 come on.
1 and 2 go out and trash and envelope come on
Trash and envelope go out and the bottom row starts scanning to the right
When the scanning stops the Ooma symbol will light up red
Press and hold stop and trash immediately before it blinks.
The Ooma symbol will alternately blink red and blue
The Ooma symbol will turn solid red
The Ooma symbol will go out and 1 and 2 come on
Release the stop and trash buttons.

BTW, these instructions are courtesy of murphy, which is appropriate considering murphy's law!

Interestingly, after the handsets updated their software, the one says i've exceeded the number of handsets which I hadn't yet with that one. But I'm guessing doing a reset will fix it all...

I guess the typical hidden button being pushed with a paper clip would be asking to much?

What software revision are you at?

I'm not sure that the update for multiple handsets has been sent out yet.

Not sure how to find that out. All I know is that it no longer says the warning about multiple handsets on the pin page and it explains how to add multiple handsets. I had to do the softkey+zero reset on the handset and the old "handset 2" to register as "handset 1" so now I know we're going in the right direction. However, I only managed to get two of the four to successfully register. AND after the second one updated it's software, it now says max number of handsets exceeded. If the Telo still doesn't support multiple handsets, they need to put the warning back up because I just wasted two hours on this...

You should get 32829 tonight or one of the next few nights. You can see the version on your Ooma setup status page - go here http://setup.ooma.com and select status. (You have to have a computer plugged in to the home network port of the Telo to get to this page.)
