Re: System Preferences is Blank
I now have the Ooma connection tone option visible, and the enable 10 digit dialing. However, the area for configuring the system for Faxes is missing. Has the option been automatically selected, thus eliminating th need to dial *99 and a delay?

You don't enable Fax Mode on that screen. To enable Fax Mode you need to go to "Preferences/Phone Numbers" and then click on whichever phone number you want to configure. I may be wrong, but I don't think Fax Mode has anything to do with a dialing delay. You'd probably have to set that up in your fax machines setup.

I beg to differ, but there used to be an option for enabling high BW (uncompressed) comm on the system preferences page. This selection allowed one to do away with the need to dial *99. This is now gone, maybe because Ooma has made some system enhancements. The phone number page allows one to set up ring patterns based on phone numbers, which is useful if the fax machine can recognize the pattern. I have done that. The Picard wrote:You don't enable Fax Mode on that screen. As for the dialing delay, you are correct; this is a function of the fax machine and in my case I needed to add a delay after the *99 in order for Ooma to connect to the outgoing line.
Thanks for your input though. All discussions reveal something new to somebody on this system which is still in its formative stage.

Well, it's like I said: To enable fax mode as you describe, go to the Preferences/Phone Numbers page and then click on the individual phone number that you want to edit. There is a checkbox for Fax Mode. It's apparent that Ooma moved the option dialog to this page. Fax mode will enable the high bandwidth codec.rocketbill wrote:I beg to differ, but there used to be an option for enabling high BW (uncompressed) comm on the system preferences page. Interesting... My phone numbers preferences page doesn't have that checkbox for either of my phone numbers. Thanks for your input. I've had problems with the Ooma preferences pages in the past and it sounds like I still do have them (using either Firefox, or IE8)The Picard wrote:Well, it's like I said: To enable fax mode as you describe, go to the Preferences/Phone Numbers page and then click on the individual phone number that you want to edit. Well, go figure: Normally this kind of stuff happens only to me! I'm happy to see that I'm not alone in the world. It's always fun trying to explain your problem when you're the only one experiencing it.rocketbill wrote:Interesting... The hub does not have the check box because it can automatically recognize an incoming fax and switch to the proper mode. The Picard wrote:Well, go figure: Normally this kind of stuff happens only to me! The Telo has the check box for each number because it does not automatically handle incoming fax transmissions.
OT: I'm amazed by the number of questions about faxing on a residential phone service.
I haven't sent or received a fax in at least 15 years and that was at work.
A scanner and email does a much better job IMHO.

I don't fax too often either, but my main printer is a Brother MFC-465CN so I have the capability. I bought it because I do a lot of color overprinting and the ink is really cheap if you know where to buy it (Meritline.com). Two months ago, I changed doctors and had my records forwarded from UWMC to the new clinic. At my visit after that, the Dr. asked if I wanted the "left over files they didn't need." Of course I said yes. Then last month I made an appointment with a specialist for some tests. He complained that UWMC was not responding to his requests for information. I was able to sort through that stack of documents and faxed 27 pages of records to the new specialist. At that time I became very grateful for a fax machine with an automatic document feeder. So it doesn't happen often but when needed itis great to have the capability. It would have taken me forever to scan them and send them as individual .jpg's.murphy wrote: OT: I'm amazed by the number of questions about faxing on a residential phone service.

Friends don't remember what Landline Integration was or why we did it.

Re: System Preferences is Blank
If you ever refinance your house you'll be happy to own a fax machine. Other than that I highly doubt that I'll use it much. But it's there and, gosh darn it, I want to be able to use it if needed!!
