e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
-I am a happy Ooma user for over 7 months now..
Question: Has anyone gave their e911 a test-spin yet?
I am reluctant to call 911 just to "test my VOIP" line.
Anyone have any input on this matter? Anyone test their e911 and works as stated?

Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
I have also wondered about a way to test e911. I've heard anecotally that this is not always working properly when a 911 call is placed. That is not the time to find out that your information is not being properly transmitted.
Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
As a former packet8 user, I was informed by that company to test my e911 by first calling the non-emergency local police number (7 digits), and explain that I wanted to test the e911 on my phone.
The woman who answered the non-emergency phone seemed familiar with this procedure, and told me to go ahead and place the 911 call.
As soon as I got off the phone, I dialed the 911 number, and the same woman answered the emergency number! Of course, I live in a small community. But this procedure is probably something many police departments are familiar with as VOIP phones become more and more popular.
Just my experience.

Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
The general rule of thumb is to do what bachguy40 said he did. Call the non-emergency number of your local police department or emergency services first. Inform them that you'd like to place a test call to 911 to verify that the proper address information is being transmitted for your phone line to 911.
The only way to verify that the correct info is being transmitted to 911 is to actually call 911. It's better to call the non-emergency number ahead of time and let them know you want to place a test call than to just up and call 911 out of the blue when it's not a true emergency. If the 911 operators are particularly busy, the non-emergency people may ask you to call back at a later time that's less busy. Some localities have very strict rules about calling 911 when the situation is not an emergency, and calling the non-emergency number ahead of time can help avoid any troubles/penalties for you.

I will take your advice - it makes sense. Thank you Bachguy and Scots!
Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
I've had the ooma product in operation now for about a week and I think it's great.
I'm using it without a landline and with "premier" in trial mode. Obviously I want to know if everything works correctly including 911 before I'm commited. So I tried 911 using the procedure outlined above and found that e911 called the emergency dispatch in my city and correctly identified me and my address. This is good to know and impressive.
Good job ooma.

Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
I'll also add that I called the non-emergency 911 number and setup a time to try the e911 service. They were happy to help and we called the 911 service and tested everything. They indicated that they could see my address...
Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
I called the non emergency dispatch line and asked if it was ok to place a test e911 call and they indicated that they would let the 911 operator know that a test call was coming through. I called and it was successful. I asked the dispatcher if she was notified of the test and she said yes.
Re: e911 -Anyone give it a test yet?
I live in a small community. As soon as my Ooma was installed and my old number ported, I placed a test call to 911 and they confirmed that I was recognized. So it made me feel better.
