Is there a way to do voice memos on Ooma - can I talk directly to my voice mail?

Only by calling from another number. The envelope button will send a caller to voicemail, but that will only work for an incoming caller.

Sorry to hear that. That could be a deal-breaker for me. I definitely need the voice memo feature. I have a handset-answer machine that works OK on Ooma except I cannot retrieve the messages from another phone. It seems that Ooma mashes the keypad tones. Is there a way to send tones over Ooma?

Actually, you mean RECEIVE tones with ooma. Right now outgoing DTMF works with both systems. On the other hand, incoming DTMF capability is as follows:
If you have the hub - NO. ooma mods say it is due to hardware/licensing agreement limitations
If you have the Telo - Maybe someday. Technically possible but not yet impemented.

Thanks for the correction and the info. I will look forward anxiously for that implementation.

You can access your ooma voice mail remotely now. Call your phone number and when the voice mail lady starts talking enter an asterisk (*) and then your voice mail pin when requested.

If you haven't set up voice mail yet, do so by picking up the phone attached to your Ooma and press the play button on the Ooma, follow the prompts.
