don't want to pay local taxes, live in china
I live in china, so I don't need or want to pay the $3-$4 local tax on the Ooma. I registered a Los Angeles address but live in China. How do I set it so that I don't have to pay the 911 tax? I don't need or want to call 911.

I hope that you have updated your profile to show your actual address as the one you have in China. It is important for E911 to have a current and accurate service address.FeiGeiWay wrote:I live in china, so I don't need or want to pay the $3-$4 local tax on the Ooma. He doesn't want the 911 feature, besides it doesn't work in China.
It might ring a 911 call enter here in the U.S. But who knows?

True, but if he has a US based service address listed, and someone at his home in China accidentally (or not) dials 911, guess where the police and fire trucks show up. I think Ooma is mandated by law to offer 911.Ein wrote:He doesn't want the 911 feature, besides it doesn't work in China.

You have a point. But 911 is for the U.S. You Can only register a U.S. address.
Police and fire truck don't show up without verification.

Not where I live. Calls to 911 that are hung up or even explained as mistaken still get a visit from the police. Do it repeatedly and you get fined.Ein wrote:Police and fire truck don't show up without verification.

Not true in two places that I've lived or live in - Madison, WI (i.e. Dane County, WI) and Metairie, LA (Jefferson Parish, LA).Ein wrote: Police and fire truck don't show up without verification.

Should make the E911 address something that won't have emergency guys show up.
Chances of false 911 less in China because they don't use 911 there. I think it is 999/120/119/110
