My AT&T dial tone is actually A-440 :-)
I really have no problem with the ooma dial tone. I just prefer the "normal" one.

I think the purpose on the ooma dial tone is to indicate to people who also have a normal land line that they are using the ooma line. This make sense if you landline provider charges long distance fees.

I also don't like the little gingle and would prefer the ablity to disable it.
