Incoming International calls shows my name on Caller ID!

Post by jonathan75 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 7:36 am

Half the time when I receive an international call the caller ID shows that it is me calling myself! The worst part is how the caller can access my voice mail because it thinks it is me calling my own number. What is causing this?

The caller cannot access your voicemail with out your password.
And using your number only works if you are dialing from your hub.

Well it does, it shouldn't show my name on the caller ID but it does that too. I can hear the whole thing on my hub live when they call. All they have to do is press 1 and they can listen to all my messages. It acts just the same as if I was picking up any of my phones.

You don't have your voicemail set up with a password?
Spoofing a caller id is not uncommon (but illegal) but it shouldn't give them access to your private voicemail.

I do have voicemail set up with a password, but it does not ask for a password if it thinks it is you picking up your own phone. And it is not spoofing because I know who is calling, it is my family in HK. If I pick it up I can talk to them but if I do not pick it up it will go to my voicemail box and then they could access my mail if they wanted to and can't leave me a message. It does not do it every time but most of the time.

Does anyone from ooma read the forums? If you look at my call history you can see it showing me calling myself.

What are they using to call you?

It is already well known that if you have a two number ooma system with one number locked to a scout, if either number calls the other number the calling party goes to the called party's voice mail, without entering a password, and can listen to their messages. This is supposed to be fixed in the upcoming update.

They are using a regular land line phone or mobile.

I still have this problem just happen today again. Incoming call from HK but called ID says my name. They go to my voicemail if I don't pick up and could listen to my messages or do anything they want. Any fix yet? Anyone from Ooma can help me?
