Outgoing Calls - Can't Hear Recipient

When I make outbound calls to certain numbers (specifically my parent's home and a local restaurant) the phone rings and stops when the recipient answers. They can hear me, but I can't hear them. Doesn't happen with all numbers, just certain numbers. Any idea what's going on? I tried searching the forums with the search feature but couldn't find anything specific to this problem.
