Warranty $40/yr -- opinions?

Post by rsg » Sat Jan 29, 2011 5:18 pm

My telo is coming on 1 year old and Ooma offers a 1 or 2 year warranty extension at $39.99 per year. What's the failure rate on these and what's your opinion of the value?

thanks!

I'm one who rarely purchases an extended warranty, but I recently had a Telo failure right at the 1 year mark, within days of the expiration of my warranty. I have read accounts here on the forum of failures identical to mine. This isn't to suggest that it's widespread or likely to happen to you. But the nature of the failure is in an area that should be very robust -- the audio output section -- and causes me concern that this may signal a design deficiency that may plaque early-generation Telos.

It's a crapshoot. If you pay the 40 bucks, you may not have a problem, and you can rest easy either way. If you pocket the $40 and it fails, it's a lot more expensive to replace.

Yeah, I agree that warranties are crap shoots. I seldom do them, my wife almost always does. I'm in charge of the ooma system, so am saving the $40 for something else. I can get a replacement for at most 5x the 1-year warranty price.
