Has there been any update to this problem? The most basic answering machines do not record messages when the caller has hung up before the "beep". My inbox gets cluttered with real messages and hangups.

Or what about when the caller just hangs up right after the beep? I get a lot of really short "click" messages. I think messages under a certain number of seconds should be ignored.
