Record a call

Post by tstack77 » Fri Apr 17, 2009 10:38 am

I thought I read somewhere in the documentation that I could record a call in progress, but I cannot seem to find where I read it.

Is it possible?

From what I understand, press the voicemail key during conversation.

Tried that, just sends the other caller to voicemail.

You can send a current call to voicemail by pressing the envelope button, But I did see anything in there about recording a call.

I got this from the Premier Features list. I assumed that you could record a call also, but never tried it myself:
"Send to Voicemail
Don’t have a pen and paper handy to jot down a note or directions to a party? Transfer a call to voicemail by pressing the “Send to Voicemail” button any time after you say hello."

Right... "Transfer a call to voicemail" is not quite the same as having the ability to record the call.

Since most of us on this forum have probably read about numerous services, it is possible that automatic recording is a feature offered by one or more of these alternative services which we have investigated. I am fairly certain that Google Voice will offer the service since recording had been offered by Grand Central when it was acquired by Google.

I've learned a lot here... two months ago I didn't even know how to spell VOIP and now I are one.

oomg, you must be spot on; I definitely shopped around and read hours of competitors feature sets.

My number was ported yesterday and I wanted to record a lot of voicemails that I've been saving from the old AT&T system. Would have been A LOT easier if ooma had this feature.

If anyone else has this issue, I found a free workaround by signing up for a number with ipkall.com, then setting up gizmo5 with that number on my computer (they have a record feature). Then I simply called my computer, then called my voicemail from the other line and conferenced the call. It worked, but it was a rather large PITA :)

Still...other than this ooma has been rock solid and I have no regrets.

Ooma probably doesn't offer this feature (at this time) because of the sheer volume of space needed to hold everyone's 'recordings' on their servers. Sending the call to Voicemail wouldn't help if you have a 30 minute recording-session to save. So there has to be another way, short of signing up for another specialty-service which does offer this.
