OT - ATT to shut down CallVantage VOIP Service

Post by southsound » Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:36 am

I didn't know if others saw this, but according to Fox News, ATT is shutting down its CallVantage VOIP service. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517440,00.html

I don't know if this will have any global effect on the VOIP industry or ooma's CLEC partners, but it seems interesting considering Verizon shut down their service earlier this year and both companies are putting most of their focus on wireless services.

AT&T is only providing U-Verse as an alternative to traditional POTS after CallVantage is retired at the end of this year.

On VOIP forums many CallVantage customers are discussing how, when and where to move their phone numbers. Not all numbers seem to be portable.

AT&T is not helping its own reputation or the reputation of VOIP in my opinion. It must agree to port out all CallVantage numbers.

There is a poll here - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r222635 ... he-CV-plug on which provider CallVantage users will port to.
