Can't add spammer to blacklist

Post by cskeptic » Sun May 22, 2011 1:12 pm

I have been getting calls from something that identifies itself in both name and number as "1". The Ooma blacklists won't accept a single digit--must be at least two. Has this spammer discovered a weakness in the blacklist system?

So is there anything I can do to block this single-digit number, or not?

Probably not. Ooma could fix it, if they would. Having designed and built (and used for four years so far) my own blacklist system that could easily block the caller you describe, I feel qualified to say that I think it would be an easy fix for Ooma.

Hmmm... Well, I'm still in the trial period for Premier service. Would any Ooma support people care to respond to this issue?

Could Ooma Add 1 through 9 into community BL?

Wouldn't they have to do a to z as well? Would it be easier for them to allow a user to block single-character IDs?

LOL - yea I guess. Gee, theres always someone that wants to hike the cost of a project! Anyway, there has been some forum banter in the past about discovering the contents of the community BL - no luck so far. Its the secret squirrel list. I guess getting all the numbers and letters would do it until they figure out how to call as @ or } ! Good point though!

As nn5i suggested, not that difficult. As you then suggested, will need Ooma to chime in. Obviously, we can't do it on Ooma with a 2 character limit. BTW, I wonder why only 2 and above ...?

The blacklist is based on the phone number only, so 0-9 would be all that is needed. However, if they add the capability to blacklist based on name then all the other characters would have to be added. They could maybe filter based on the phone number not being a full 10 digits. Although, I don't know how this type of rule would effect incoming international calls.
