Ooma Misc. Item $59.98?

Post by hingli » Sat Jul 09, 2011 5:47 pm

Hi everyone,

I just received a withdraw from my debit card from Ooma for $59.98. I looked at My Ooma Billing history and it shows "Ooma Misc. Item $29.99" but the total is $59.98. What is the charge for?

Thanks

I also had this charge. For your info, I had my Hawaii number ported and I am still living there/here.
I was told by Cust. Service that It is for 2010 and 2011 phone number charge because Ooma gets charged for the Hawaii numbers by the Hawaii provider. I have Basic service, but nver heard of this from any Provider before, and it's not listed in fees to be charged. Also she stated that this was for Hawaii, but other States don't have this charge.

That $59.98 looks like $29.99 x 2.

The reference to Hawaii number surcharge is mentioned in many places.

https://www.ooma.com/products/faqs

Due to the high cost of Hawaii phone numbers, numbers in the 808 area code carry a surcharge of $29.99/year per number. This fee is waived for one 808 phone number if you subscribe to Ooma Premier. To activate your Ooma system with a Hawaii phone number, please contact Ooma support.

Do you offer Hawaii (808 area code) phone numbers?

Yes, but due to the high cost of Hawaii phone numbers, numbers in the 808 area code carry a surcharge of $29.99/year per number. This charge is also applied to Hawaii phone numbers that are ported to Ooma. This fee is waived for one 808 phone number if you subscribe to Ooma Premier. We may also not be able to provision your caller-ID information in some Hawaii calling areas. To activate your Ooma system with a Hawaii phone number, please contact Ooma support.

Note: Due to the high cost of Hawaii phone numbers, numbers in the 808 area code carry some restrictions. Please click here for more info.

FYI, as far as I know, you can't get 808 number from Google Voice due to the same reasons (no port in to GV either).

Thanks lbmofo! I guess it wan't there when I first got the Ooma system. Wife goes ballistic when unknown charges appear on our statement. The Ooma Cust. Sevice agent was informative and the only concern I had was the back charge for 2010.

No complaints here! Ooma has never failed to live up to my expectations. I'm just supprised the Costco here stopped selling the systems. I did notify one of the managers and he didn't even know they had it in the first place!

Thanks again!

Welcome to Ooma hawaiian! Hang loose! :)
Costco stores stocking Ooma is hit & miss. At least the stores near me have them come and go as well. But costco.com would always have them.

It's funny because the Costco manager was telling me that I could save on my TV/Cable/phone bill with a plan they're pushing. When I told him what I was doing, he was literally perplexed, and went straight to his computer and saw that they did sell the system. It's unfortunate that when they did have it, no one knew too much about VOIP phone systems. I had the Road Runner and was glad to dump the RR phone.

Does anyone else find this additional charge being assessed for 2010 service to be unjustified?

I understand, if going forward, ooma finds that they must charge additional fees for (808) nmbers and then change the terms of service for Hawaii customers. But how can they not inform you of the fee when your service was established and then I. The middle of 2011 unilaterally issue a charge for the current year and for the previuos year. Doesn't seem right to me.

It seems the $29.99 for 808 number (if non Premier) was already there even in early 2010 but I think Ooma was just late charging you.
