Can't call to the Ooma number

Post by KGun1284 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:02 pm

Can't call to my Ooma number. All I get from the outside line is feedback. Voicemail wont pick up.

You must have lost internet connection to your Ooma for less than 20 minutes. If more, then voicemail would kick in (and call forward on network outage).

How do I regain the ability to make an incoming call, though? Internet connection is fine. Calling the Ooma number from an outside line results in silence and some loud feedback on the cell phone. I can call out from the Ooma number fine.

If you can call out fine, that means your Ooma is working fine connected to the internet. Are you test calling your Ooma using your cell?

Yes, my cell and other cell phones. All have the same result: silence, no ringing, and loud feedback (I can hear myself breathing/echoing on the cell phone end).

Do you see the line 1 button flash red when you are calling your Ooma?

If so and your phone is not ringing, unplug the power to your phone's base unit and plug back in after 20 seconds.

The Line 1 button does flash. Tried unplugging...doesn't work!

The Ooma unit itself DOES ring audibly and the Line 1 button flashes. It's the cell phone that's making the call to the Ooma unit that can't hear any type of ringing/can't hear voicemail picking up. It's not the cell phone that's the issue because I've used several different cell phones to try this.

The phone attached to your Ooma rings? If you let the call ring and ring, Ooma line 1 would stop flashing but cell phone you are calling from doesn't hear anything other than some loud noise (during the time when your phone connected to Ooma rings, your cell phone, there is no answer tone/ringing?) ?

To make sure you haven't recorded some blank/white noise personal greeting and using it on Ooma voicemail, pick up the phone connected to your Ooma and dial your own Ooma number.

Then press 2 to change settings
Then press 4 to change the type of greeting (select the one you want, system generated is what I use for example)

Correct. And, in fact, I left a voicemail (just kept talking into my cellphone for about a minute, hoping the Ooma would pick it up). The voicemail message played back fine! The issue here is anyone that calls my Ooma unit cannot hear anything on their cell phone end. Just silence and loud feedback (such as hearing yourself breathing into the phone echoing back at you).
