Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
I'm seeing a huge increase as well. We are getting several calls a day from telemarketers, robocallers and survey companies. We are on the national Do Not Call registry and used to go days without the phone ringing! Now, since moving to OOMA it is a constant string of annoying calls. We pay for premier service but quite frankly I don't have time to add all of these to my blacklist each day. Why isn't the OOMA blacklist catching all these? Many that I have blocked are national, known telemarketing companies when I research the number on Google, so I would think these would be on OOMA's blacklist so I don't have to add them on a daily basis! The OOMA blacklist was the reason I paid for premier service, but I don't feel I'm getting anything but a premier hassle right now. We have had OOMA for a few months and have really seen a huge increase in bogus calls. How can we stop this?

I saw the same thing. I went back and re signed up the the Do Not Call again. Now... silence is golden.

I tried that too about 2-3 weeks ago, but still they keep coming. I'm not sure if porting our number threw it into telemarketers baskets again, but I just want them to stop!!!
Re: Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
So I counted. We have been with OOMA for a little over a month and in that time we have had to add 47 numbers to the blacklist and the bad thing is that almost all of them are listed in the caller ID area as a survey company, telemarketer etc. or listed as such on the various internet phone lists of telemarketers, scammers and robocalls. I'm disappointed in that fact that we upgraded and paid for an entire year of premier service basically just for the blacklist feature, that now doesn't work. The other thing is that even those on the blacklist still ring through, so our dinners are still being disturbed by these calls that I shouldn't be getting at all! I think they need to do a better job of updating their blacklist. Heck, if they just added each personal blacklist to their database they should have them all covered. It's just very disappointing!

Which are still ringing through? Improvements are in the works.mominnc wrote:[community] blacklist feature, that now doesn't work. The other thing is that even those on the [personal] blacklist still ring through

I'm seeing a similar increased number of these calls too -- despite using the blacklists and NomoRobo.
Thinking about the Do Not Call Registry, I'm wondering if these telemarketers are perhaps calling my personal (virtual) ooma # that came with Premier? To check, I just switched the ringtone pattern for that # to see if that maybe is part of the problem. Also re-added my main # to the Do Not Call Registry again and registered the Ooma personal-virtual # too.
I'll post back any news.

If you look at call logs, it will also tell you whether line 1 or line 2.

I upgraded to premier as well and am likewise disappointed. We are getting a sizable increase is SPAM calls (I'm not including political calls -- I understand that those are legal). I double-checked with the do-not-call registry, and I'm am on the list. We were previously on AT&T, and our number was unpublished. Did our number get published by porting it over to OOMA? If not, then AT&T did a better job of blocking spam callers.mominnc wrote:I'm disappointed in that fact that we upgraded and paid for an entire year of premier service basically just for the blacklist feature, that now doesn't work.

There is no active spam blocking by any carrier. For some reason, porting a residential line creates spikes in spam calls.Lurchbird wrote:Did our number get published by porting it over to OOMA? If not, then AT&T did a better job of blocking spam callers.

Re: Huge Increase in Telemarketers AFTER switching to Ooma
Tom B, I am also experiencing a significant increase in Spam telemarketer calls since porting. Not sure if AT&T did a better job of blocking, or if there is something else going on. The spam call volume has really ramped up in the last few days. A couple of days this week, I am adding 5+ new numbers to my Personal Blacklist each day. I will run through 250 pretty quick if this keeps up. My entire Personal Blacklist was wiped out a few days ago, so I am starting over and some of these could be old spammers still annoying me. Looking forward to the improvements that you hinted at.Tom B wrote:Which are still ringing through? Improvements are in the works.mominnc wrote:[community] blacklist feature, that now doesn't work.
